INTRODUCTION
This course is designed to equip auto-technicians with vehicle electrical requisite skills and knowledge needed to diagnose and repair and maintain basic electrical systems and components.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course begins with a review of basic electrical principles like current, voltage and resistance. In addition students are taught to use simple diagnostic tools like multimeter in system fault-finding exercises. The key topics include the starting system, the battery and the charging system among others. The course runs for one year.
COURSE RQUIREMENTS
Trainees of this unit are second year automotive students who are undertaking a diploma in automotive engineering. The trainees should follow strict safety work procedures when working around the battery and in the environment of high voltage lighting and ignition systems. No student will be allowed in the automotive lab without proper personal protective equipment.
ASSESSMENT METHODS
Trainees will undergo formative and summative assessments which will be a blend of both e-ctivities, theoretical continuous assessment tests, hands-on skills during practicals and e-portfolio activities. The pass mark according to our college regulations is 40%.
